Welcome to Macomber Center!

We are currently accepting new members for the 2025–26 academic year.
Request an interview today.

The Macomber Center for Self-Directed Education serves children ages 5 to 18, offering both full-time and part-time options. Members may attend Monday through Friday—or selected days if part-time—from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, following a traditional academic year calendar. Here, children are free to follow their curiosity and pursue their own interests all within a vibrant, age-mixed community, supported by engaged, knowledgeable adults. Macomber is not a school. Our members are officially registered as homeschoolers.

What Do Kids Do at The Center?

Our members have continuous access to computers, books, games, and various tools and materials, as well as a kitchen, art room, and a music room. Our outdoor space consists of 114 acres with large sports fields, hiking trails, rocks and ledges for climbing, streams, and densely wooded areas populated with forts. We also have seven talented and dedicated staff members—each bringing a unique set of interests, knowledge, and skills. How members engage with our community and its resources is entirely up to them.

How to Become a Member

We offer rolling admissions, provided there is space available. After an initial interview, prospective members must complete a five-day trial period. After the trial, we will meet with you and your child to determine if the Macomber Center is the right fit.
